16-year-old Jacob Wursig fell nearly 30 feet with his friends on Tuesday afternoon while searching for whip legs.

Jacob’s father, Robert Wursig, said his son was having fun at the time of the accident.

“Jacob got a little overzealous and was doing some jumping on different ledges and slipped, jumped and slid backwards off the edge and couldn’t catch himself and fell 20 to 30 feet. And it’s all down So its landing was rough,” said Robert.

After the fall, Jacob was taken to a nearby hospital.

Doctors at Metrohealth Medical Center treating Jacob found that the teenager had suffered a brain injury.

Jacob will need several surgeries, but they are put on hold as doctors are working to control the swelling in his brain. After dealing with multiple skull fractures and broken bones, Jacob is unconscious since the fall.

Jacob’s mother, Jan Wursig, said, “I just want to wake him up so he can see how much he is loved and just cared for. Because man, does he ever have a support system.”

Jacob’s parents described their son as a lover of music and jujitsu and worked at their local Taco Bell. They hope that Jacob will work hard to recover and get back to enjoying life.

In the meantime, A GoFundMe has been created To help pay for Jacob’s medical bills. As of Friday, more than $27,000 have been raised.
