UDUPI: About 15,000 people are expected to attend the programme being held to mark Rajata Mahotsava, or silver jubilee celebrations, of the formation of Udupi district. Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot will inaugurate the programme, to be held at Mahatma Gandhi district stadium, Ajjarakad, on August 25.
MLA K Raghupathi Bhat told reporters on Monday that about 50 past and present members of all 150 panchayats in the district will make it to the venue. Councillors of Udupi CMC, members of TMCs and town panchayat will also participate.
The stadium has a capacity to accommodate 30,000 and seating arrangements will be made for 15,000 persons. The celebrations will be organised for five months and Rs 1 crore will be spent for the events to be organised to mark the milestone event. An investors’ meet and seminars will be held in the days to come to chalk out the future plans for the development of the district.
Bhat further said that various committees have been formed under the leadership of Udupi district minister S Angara. The logo of the silver jubilee celebrations and the website have been launched.
