A court in Faridkot in Punjab has issued a production warrant for Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim. Now Punjab Police can bring Dera Pramukh for questioning. After getting the production warrant from the court, now the SIT of Punjab Police will talk to the Rohtak jail administration in Haryana. It will be decided only after the approval of Rohtak Jail Administration and Punjab-Haryana Home Department whether the Dera Pramukh can be brought to Punjab or not?

There was a clash between Dera fans and Sikhs in Punjab after Dera Pramukh Ram Rahim administered Jam-e-Insaan to Dera lovers on 29 April 2007 at Salabatpura. After that Derapramukh Ram Rahim never came to Punjab. Now if the SIT brings him to Punjab for questioning in the sacrilege case, then for the first time after 14 years, the Derapramukh will come to the soil of Punjab. However, its expectation is negligible.

6 year old Guru Granth Sahib theft case
The SIT of Punjab Police wants to interrogate the Derapramukh in the sacrilege case registered 6 years ago. The case dates back to July 1, 2015, when the holy form of Guru Granth Sahib was stolen from the Gurdwara of village Burj Jawahar Singhwala, located 5 km from Bargadi in Faridkot district. On 24 September 2015, two hand-written posters were found near the Gurudwara in Bargadi. It is alleged that in these posters written in Punjabi language, abusive language was used and Dera Sacha Sauda’s hand was written in the theft of holy forms. On 12 October 2015, parts of the holy form were found scattered in the streets of Burj Jawahar Singhwala. On October 14, two people were killed in police firing while removing the protesting sangat in village Bahbalkalan of Faridkot. On the same day, the police lathi-charged and fired on the people of the Sikh community sitting on a sit-in in Kotkapura.

5 arrests so far
Police registered 3 separate FIRs in the year 2015 regarding the theft of holy form from Burj Jawahar Singhwala and shootings in Behbalkalan and Kotkapura. Among them, five dera lovers Randeep Singh alias Neela, Ranjit Singh, Baljit Singh, Nishan Singh and Narinder Kumar Sharma were arrested who are now out on bail. Lookout notices were issued against three members of Dera Sacha Sauda National Committee Sandeep Bareta, Pradeep Kler and Harsh Dhuri. No trace of these three has been found till date. On July 6, 2019, the Derapramukh was named in the FIR No. 62 registered at the Bajakhana police station in connection with the theft of his holy form from Burj Jawahar Singhwala and now a production warrant has been taken for questioning the Derapramukh in the same case.

3 SITs including CBI have been investigated
In the year 2015, the matter of sacrilege became hot and it became the biggest issue in the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections. So far, apart from the CBI, three different SITs of Punjab Police have been investigated in this case, but the names of the real culprits who did the sacrilege have not been revealed. Now the Punjab government’s SIT has sought a production warrant for Derapramukh Ram Rahim for the first time in this case.

Dera Pramukh Ram Rahim has been lodged in Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail since he was sentenced to 10 years each in the sexual abuse case of two sadhvis of his dera in the year 2017. After that the Derapramukh has also been sentenced to death in the murder of journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati and Ranjit Singh and during the hearing of both the cases, the Derapramukh has been appearing in the court through video conferencing. In such a situation, it is a very difficult task to bring the Dera Pramukh to Punjab for questioning from Rohtak in the sacrilege case. Apart from the security agencies, the governments of both the states also hardly agree on this. It is expected that the Punjab government’s SIT may get permission to interrogate the Derapramukh in Rohtak jail itself. This has happened before.

Dera Pramukh Ram Rahim has been convicted in sexual exploitation of two sadhvis of his dera, journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati murder case and Ranjit Singh murder case. He is lodged in Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail since 2017. Many cases including sacrilege against him are going on in the court in Punjab.
