128 lakh passengers traveled till July 24 under Vande Bharat Mission: Government to Parliament

New Delhi: The Central Government said on Wednesday that till July 24, 2021, about 128 lakh passengers have traveled under the Vande Bharat Mission.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, General (Retd) VK Singh said that the Vande Bharat Mission started on May 7, 2020 and is continuing since then.

He said in a written reply to Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sasmit Patra in Rajya Sabha, “As of 24.07.2021, more than 88,000 inbound flights have been operated and more than 71 lakh passengers have returned to India from more than 100 countries. ” .

General (Lal) Singh said that in the same period more than 87,600 outbound flights have been operated and more than 57 lakh passengers have traveled abroad from India.

“The flights under the Vande Bharat Mission are operated under strict adherence to the health protocols laid down by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the procedures laid down by the Ministry of Civil Aviation,” he said.

Gen (Lal) Singh further said that the applicable guidelines/instructions of foreign countries/from where the flights are being operated are also followed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government launched the Vande Bharat Mission on May 7, 2020 – one of the biggest initiatives to bring citizens back to India.

Under this mission, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs and State Governments to bring back Indians to their homeland.
