1270 omicron cases in India. Maharashtra accounts for 450 patients. Check State Wise List

New Delhi: With a huge jump in coronavirus cases, 16,764 new cases have been reported in India on Friday. The country has recorded 7,585 healthy and 220 deaths in the last 24 hours.

India has crossed the 1000-mark of omicron cases as the total number of highly transmissible variant now stands at 1,270.

The active caseload in the country currently stands at 91,361. The recovery rate in India at present is 98.36 percent.

Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government on Thursday registered a spurt in omicron cases. The state has recorded 198 new cases of the Omron variant including 190 in Mumbai alone, taking the number of cases of this latest coronavirus variant in the state to 450.

Maharashtra recorded 5,368 coronavirus cases on Thursday, an increase of 1468 cases a day earlier. This took the state’s COVID-19 tally to 66,70,754.

There are currently 18,217 active cases in the state. With the discharge of 1193 COVID-19 patients in the day, the number of recoveries rose to 65,07,330.

According to PTI, following a rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the state, the Maharashtra government has limited attendance at gatherings in open or closed spaces to 50.

Earlier not more than 100 persons in enclosed spaces and 250 persons in open spaces were allowed to attend marriage ceremonies or social, cultural, political and religious gatherings.

The state government on Thursday night issued new guidelines, limiting the number of people attending these events to 50 people.

The new order also states that only 20 persons can attend the funeral.

Gujarat

The Health Department said in a release on Thursday evening that 573 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Gujarat during the last 24 hours, taking the number of positive cases in the state to 8,31,078.

The good news is that no new cases of the Omicron variant have been reported in the state.

On Wednesday, daily coronavirus cases in Gujarat crossed the 500-mark for the first time after more than six months.

Two COVID-19 patients also succumbed to the infection on Thursday, taking the death toll to 10,118.

The number of recoveries rose to 8,18,589, with 102 people getting discharged during the day, the release said, adding that 11 patients are on ventilators out of a total of 2,371 active cases. 97 cases so far omicron Tension is reported in Gujarat. Of these, 44 infected persons have been cured, including three on Thursday, while 53 are still undergoing treatment.
