Basant Kaur, a 124-year-old woman living in Sabuwal of Lohian Khas in Jalandhar, passed away on Wednesday. Basant Kaur, who lived such a long life, was fond of eating sweets. He also did not have any disease like sugar and blood pressure (BP). Family members say that Basant Kaur never had to be taken to the doctor. Basant Kaur used to say that my brothers and sisters and husband have passed away. Maybe the one above has forgotten me, who is still alive. My age has come to an end now.

Although the family members give his age as 132 years, but according to the voter card made on January 1, 1995, his age is less recorded in the record. Son Sardara Singh and daughter-in-law Kulwant Kaur say that they were lucky that they got a chance to serve. Even at this stage of his age, he never had any problem. His presence in the house often made us feel courageous. On Wednesday he had dinner. Then after 15 minutes drank water and gave up his life. He has 12 grandchildren and 13 granddaughters in the family. Next to them are 5 great-grandsons and 3 great-granddaughters. There are children ahead of them too.

Basant Kaur was the witness of 3 centuries, saw the Indo-Pak partition with her own eyes

As on January 1, 1995, the age of Basant Kaur is 98 years in the government records. In this respect he saw 3 centuries. Born in the 19th century and married in the 20th century. In the 21st century, she has now turned away from the world. Family members say that since her real age, she was the oldest woman not only in Punjab but in the country. Born in the British Raj, Basant Kaur was also a witness to the India-Pakistan partition in 1947. She used to tell how her neighboring Muslim families had left their homes and went to Pakistan. She used to say that I had gone home with four children. The husband Jwala Singh had helped the Muslim brothers to go to Pakistan.

Husband lived 105 years, 5 children had also died, was living with 5th generation

Basant Kaur’s husband Jwala Singh also died in 1995 at the age of 105. He had 6 sons and 3 daughters. In which 5 children have died. His eldest son died 7 years ago at the age of 95. His grandson’s grandson is also 28 years old and lives in America. She was living with the 5th generation in the family. No one is alive among his 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

Had hated vegetables, used to eat roti with curd

Basant Kaur used to eat sweets a lot. Eating biscuits for 4 days in a month was one of his habit. She used to eat a lot of jaggery along with gram flour (sweets), badana and tea. Sweet was lying near his bed. The special thing was that at this stage of age, he had hated vegetables. She used to eat only roti in curd. He would get hungry even 4 times a day.

Was saddened by the death of the rest of the family members

Kulwant Kaur, daughter-in-law, who takes care of Basant Kaur, says that Basant Kaur often used to say that everyone wants to live a long and healthy life, I also wanted to. I lost 5 children and 8 siblings are no more. Husband also left. Saying this she used to cry often. Then she would say that it seems that the above person has forgotten me or he has no place for me.

There was no disease, immunity surprised even in the corona period

72-year-old son Sardara Singh says that mother Basant Kaur did not have any disease. She was very afraid of injections. If there was a mild fever, she would have taken the pill. There was never a need to take him to the doctor. During the Corona period, we were afraid that the mother might catch this disease, but she remained completely healthy. It was so sure that she could no longer see and she had lost her hearing in one ear. She listened in a loud voice with the other ear. She often used to tell people about India before independence.
