Twelve deliveries in an over and the priced wicket of Suryakumar Yadav – South Africa pacer Patrick Kruger finally had something on his platter after struggling for close to five minutes against India in the first T20I at Kingsmead, Durban. After losing Abhishek Sharma early, the duo of Sanju Samson and Suryakumar put on a fabulous batting display with a 66-run partnership for the second wicket off just 37 deliveries. In the 9th over, Kruger came into the attack and bowled 11 deliveries before getting rid of the Indian skipper.

Kruger, into his first over, conceded 5 off the first two deliveries before bowling a no-ball. He bowled a legal delivery after the free-hit ball but conceded four extras in a row. With nine deliveries bowled already and three more to go, Kruger buckled up and finally, broke the partnership off the final ball of the over. Suryakumar failed to pick up the knuckle ball and holed it to Andile Simelane at deep square leg fence.

Kruger thus bowled the fourth-joint longest over in T20Is, matching the tally of Cosmas Kyewuta of Uganda, who bowled 12 balls in an over against Namibia in 2021. Mongolia’s Luwsanzundui Erdenebulgan holds the bizarre record of bowling the longest over in T20 Internationals, comprising 14 balls, during the tour of Japan in 2024.
