1,000 wrongly immersed Ganesh idols recovered. Surat News – Times of India

Surat: At least 1,000 idols of Lord Ganesha were recovered from various canals and small ponds by a group of Yuva Sanskriti Raksha Samiti (SRS) and were immersed in the sea at Hazira. Seeing the pathetic condition of the immersed idols, the SRS started the campaign a few years back.
In 2020, the group recovered and immersed more than 4,500 idols. This year, fewer idols were erroneously immersed as the overall numbers declined. Ganesha Due to restrictions related to Covid this year in pandals. The group does not take any external financial support for the initiative.
“Every year after the Visarjan day we see Ganesh idols all around. Many people throw them in canals or ponds instead of properly immersing them. People should stop doing this,” said Ashish Suryavanshi of SRS.
Seeing the condition of the idols after immersion, the youths of Udhna formed SRS. Many volunteers have joined the effort and now have members in different parts of the city.
“We have made representations to the government demanding a complete ban on POP idols. If the idol is made of clay then it will immediately dissolve in water and we can stop the insult of God by some irresponsible people,” Suryavanshi said.
Volunteers visit various canals and immersion sites. This year a total of 19 artificial ponds in the city were created by Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) with immersion in sea at Hazira.
