10 ministers, over 20 MLAs test COVID positive: Deputy CM Ajit Pawar hints at tighter restrictions

Pune: Stating that strict restrictions may be imposed if the Covid-19 cases continue to rise in Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Saturday said that more than ten ministers and over 20 MLAs have tested positive for coronavirus in the state so far. .

“We recently shortened the assembly session. So far, more than 10 ministers and over 20 MLAs have tested positive for coronavirus,” Pawar told reporters after visiting the Jaystambh Military Memorial in Perne village on the occasion of the 204th anniversary of the Battle of Koregaon Bhima, PTI reported.

“Everyone wants to be a part of celebration of New Year, Birthday and other occasions. Note that the new version (omicron) spreads rapidly and hence caution is needed.”

Pawar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made an appeal and said that some states have announced night curfew in view of the increase in Kovid-19 cases.

“In Maharashtra, cases are increasing in Mumbai and Pune,” he said.

Responding to a question on the possibility of imposing more restrictions in Maharashtra, Pawar said the state government was monitoring the increasing number of patients.

“If the number of patients continues to rise, there will be strict restrictions. To avoid strict restrictions, everyone should follow the norms,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks came a day after Maharashtra reported 8,067 fresh Covid-19 positive cases.

Maharashtra capital Mumbai, earlier on Friday recorded 5,631 new coronavirus cases, taking the caseload in the city to 7,85,110 on the last day of 2021, according to a civic official.
