1 killed, 5 injured in AC compressor blast in Delhi

One person was killed and five others were injured when the compressor of an air conditioner exploded in southeast Delhi’s Jamia Nagar, triggering a fire at an eatery on Thursday.

Police said Nadeem and Shaan were called to repair the air conditioner at the eatery located on the ground floor of the two-storey building.

A senior police officer said, “Nadeem suffered serious injuries to his head and chest due to the blast and was found bleeding and unconscious.” He said that he died during treatment.

Shan along with Danish, Ajju, Bijay and Iqra were injured and were admitted to Holy Family Hospital for treatment, an official said, adding that Iqra was discharged after a few hours.

Based on preliminary investigation, the fire department had earlier said that 13 people were injured after a cylinder exploded at the eatery. However, police later confirmed that it was the compressor of an air-conditioner that exploded and caught fire.

Atul Garg, director of Delhi Fire Services, said, “A fire was reported at 3.49 pm and three fire tenders were rushed to the spot.”

He said the fire was brought under control in an hour.

Meanwhile, AAA, an official said.

The purported video of the incident shows locals rescuing the injured and taking them to the hospital in e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws.
