Environmental activists demanded the removal of the bus stand from Dharmatala to save the Victoria Memorial. Environmental activist Subhash Dutt had filed a case in the Calcutta High Court regarding that demand. On June 9, a division bench of Justice Devanshu Basak and Justice Shampa Sarkar asked the state government to transfer the Dharmatala bus stand to the state government in view of that matter. The state government told the court that the matter is being considered whether this bus stand can be shifted to any other place other than Santragachi. Along with this, the state also mentioned in the court the issue of making a multi-modal transport hub at Dharmatala. The state told the court that a letter has been written to the Metro Authority to discuss the construction of the transport hub. Because the metro project is going on there. However, no response has been given so far by Metro.

Incidentally, a case was filed in the Calcutta High Court seeking the removal of the Dharmatala bus stand, claiming that Victoria could suffer due to pollution if vehicles were parked in the area for a long time. Is. The Calcutta High Court had in 2007 ordered the bus stand to be shifted from Dharmatala to prevent pollution. Later, the state government went to the Supreme Court to challenge the order. However, the Supreme Court also upheld that order. But even after 12 years that order has not been implemented. Taking up this grievance, environmental activist Subhash Dutt again filed a case in the Calcutta High Court.

In the hearing of the case, Subhash Dutt filed an additional affidavit in the court, requesting the court to take the advice of environmental experts to remove the bus stand from Dharmatalla. Based on that, the court directed the state to ensure protection of the environment. Next hearing of the case on July 14.
