Retired Justice Umesh Kumar was appointed as the chairman of DERC on 21 June.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday postponed by a week the swearing-in of retired Justice Umesh Kumar, chairman of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC). The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Center and LG VK Saxena.

The Delhi government had challenged the appointment of Umesh Kumar as DERC chairman. The court will next hear the matter on July 11. Till then oath taking will not be done.

LG wrote a letter to Kejriwal, said- take oath through video conference
LG VK Saxena wrote a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal regarding the swearing-in. He said, the swearing-in of the DERC chairman could not take place till 10 am on Tuesday. Justice Umesh is available for oath only till 10 am.

Delhi’s Energy Minister Atishi should get the oath taken through video conferencing or Arvind Kejriwal or any of his ministers should complete these formalities. Otherwise, the Chief Secretary can be asked to complete these formalities.

Justice Umesh took over the post on June 21, was to be sworn in on July 6.
Retired Justice Umesh Kumar was appointed as the chairman of DERC on 21 June. His swearing-in ceremony was to be held on Monday, but Atishi suddenly fell ill. After this the swearing-in was postponed till 6 July.
