The state government formed 184 teams to rescue the lions living in the Gir forest of Gujarat from Biparjoy cyclone. At present, monitoring teams are keeping a special eye on 40 lions living in the coastal area. There are seven rivers and small ponds in the lion’s territory. In the event of heavy rains, the water in these river-ponds increases, so the teams have been deployed there.

Late night PM Narendra Modi spoke to Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel on the phone and inquired about the measures taken for the protection of lions.

Build 58 control rooms
Patel asked the forest department to make special arrangements to keep the animals living in the forest safe from the storm. Rescue teams have also been deployed in Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary and Mata Ke Marh, Barda and Narayan Sarovar in Kutch, besides the Asiatic lion in Gir forest.

The 184 teams that have been formed will carry out various operations including rescue of wild animals, swift action, removal of trees. 58 control rooms have been set up to receive emergency messages for wild animals.

hi-tech monitoring
Satellite technology is being used to monitor the movements of lions. The forest department has developed a high-tech lion tracking monitoring system to track lions, with radio collars fitted to some of the lions living in groups. Through this, their activities are recorded in the monitoring cell through satellite link. Cattle herders living in Gir area have been shifted to safer places.

Special teams deployed in the sanctuary area of ​​Kutch
Special precautions have also been taken in the sanctuary area of ​​Kutch. Four rescue teams have been deployed at Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary and Dayapar range of Kutch at Dayapar, Mata Marh, Barda and Narayan Sarovar. Apart from this, a total of 13 teams consisting of five members each have been formed in Kutch Circle, a large desert area of ​​Kutch. Additional 6 wildlife rescue teams have been formed to help the wild animals. JCBs, tractors and other essential equipment have been deployed at strategically important locations.

Three teams have been deployed in the Ghorad sanctuary for rescue operations or other needs.
