Opposition parties in Delhi have demanded to make Jammu and Kashmir a state again and hold elections immediately. The parties have decided that they will go to Srinagar in May to support the people of Kashmir.

A delegation of political parties from Jammu and Kashmir met leaders of opposition parties at the Constitution Club in Delhi. Leaders of several parties including Congress, Samajwadi Party, Aam Aadmi Party, DMK, NCP, TMC, CPIM, and RJD were present in this meeting.

After the meeting, the delegation of J&K parties also went to meet the Election Commission. There he gave a memorandum demanding that elections be held. Farooq Abdullah said that the Election Commission has assured him that necessary steps will be taken to conduct the elections.

Election likely to be held this year

In August 2019, the central government abrogated Article 370 and declared Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as union territories.
