Principal Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami talking after the SGPC Interim Committee meeting.

The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) was opposed in the interim committee meeting of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC). At the same time, no decision has been taken at present regarding the controversy over Gurbani broadcast which started in the past. Also, 51 employees have been suspended in connection with the langar scam.

SGPC President Dhami said that there is no need of UCC in the country. The central government has sought suggestions for this. Right now it is under consideration, but uneasiness can already be seen in the low count groups. Our constitution reflects the principle of diversity in unity.

We realize that the customs, dress, food habits of Sikhs are different from others. It was completely rejected by the 21st Law Commission. Then 22nd Law Commission was formed, but SGPC completely rejects it.

At the same time, a proposal to change the SGPC Gurdwara Act 1925 was passed by the Punjab government in the Vidhansabha regarding broadcasting of Gurbani. Which has not yet been discussed in the meeting. At present, SGPC has considered running a separate YouTube channel, but not a separate TV channel. Which is still under consideration.
