Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari announced his resignation on Monday. Koshyari wrote on social media – I have expressed my desire to leave all political responsibilities to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Koshyari has been in controversy for calling Shivaji an icon of yesteryear. Last month, Koshyari had also written a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah seeking his guidance on this dispute. I will spend the rest of my life reading and writing
Koshyari has talked about leaving the post in the tweet. He wrote- Recently I met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mumbai. I told him that I wanted to be relieved of all political responsibilities. I told him that I wanted to spend the rest of my life in writing, reading and other activities. I have always received love and affection from the Prime Minister.

Koshyari told Shivaji the icon of the old times
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari called Shivaji an icon of yesteryears at a university function in Aurangabad on 19 November. Union minister and BJP leader Nitin Gadkari and NCP chief Sharad Pawar were also present at the event along with Koshyari.

He described Babasaheb Ambedkar and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari as the icons of the new era in the gathering. After this statement, the leaders of the opposition attacked him and started demanding his resignation. The Shinde faction, which formed the government in Maharashtra with the support of the BJP, also opposed Koshyari’s statement.
