Violence between people of Kuki and Meitei communities has been going on in the state for 64 days. So far more than 135 people have lost their lives in this violence.

A woman was shot dead outside her school in Manipur’s Imphal West district on Thursday. Schools have been opened here a day earlier. In view of the situation, the state government has extended the internet ban for 5 more days.

Violence between people of Kuki and Meitei communities has been going on in the state for 64 days. So far more than 135 people have lost their lives in this violence and more than 400 people have been injured.

The government had ordered to open the school till class 8.
The Manipur government had given orders to open schools up to class 8. Schools and colleges from ninth to 12th will not be opened yet. Relief camps have been set up in these schools. More than 50 thousand people are living in the camps. Curfew has been lifted from 5 out of 16 districts of the state. Now curfew continues from 5 pm to 5 am in 11 districts.

People of the Kuki and Meitei communities have built their own bunkers in the violence-hit areas of the state.  From here they keep an eye on the opponents' territory.

The mob tried to loot weapons, one was killed in the firing
A mob attacked an Indian Reserve Battalion camp in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Tuesday and tried to steal weapons. During this, there was a clash between the crowd and the security forces. The armed mob opened fire, in response to which the army had to fire. A 27-year-old man died.

Officials said that the mob had blocked several roads leading to the camp, so that additional security forces could not reach there. The forces somehow managed to move forward. Meanwhile, the mob also set the jawans’ car on fire.

4 people lost their lives in violence on 2nd July
On July 2, people from both the communities clashed at the Bishnupur-Churachandpur border. In this, three people lost their lives due to bullet injuries. There a person’s head was cut off. Later, CM N Biren Singh visited the area falling in Kumbi. He promised to provide security to the local people.

The main reason for the violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur is a High Court order. In this order, the Manipur High Court recommended ST status to the Meitei community of the state. In protest against this order, a march was called by the Kuki community on 3 May.
