India is constantly advancing its nuclear weapons and the technology to operate them. According to a recent report by the Federation of American Scientists (FAS), the focus of India’s nuclear strategy is increasing on China. Earlier this strategy was made keeping Pakistan in mind.

According to the FAS report, at least four new weapon systems are being developed in India. These will replace or improve existing weapons. These include nuclear-capable aircraft, land-based delivery systems and submarine-launched missiles.

Now India has 8 nuclear systems
The American report has claimed that at present the country has 8 systems equipped with nuclear capability. These include 2 aircraft, 4 land-based ballistic missiles and 2 sea-based ballistic missiles. The 4 new systems currently being developed will be ready to enter the field soon. The report said that China is in the range of Indian ballistic missiles.

The country has a stockpile of 160 nuclear weapons.
According to the FAS, India currently has a stockpile of 160 nuclear weapons. To operate the new missile system, more nuclear weapons will also have to be made. For this, the country has produced 700 kg of weapon-grade plutonium. From this, 138 to 213 nuclear weapons can be made.

Pakistan has more nuclear weapons than India
At present, Pakistan has more nuclear weapons. According to the report, Pakistan has 165 weapons. At the same time, China has 350, America has 5,428 and Russia has 5,977 nuclear weapons. This is the reason why India is reducing its military strength to strengthen it.

The source of making weapons-grade plutonium in India is the Dhruv reactor at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center in Mumbai. The FAS report states that India is now considering developing at least one more reactor to increase its plutonium production capacity.
