A day earlier, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the general budget for the financial year 2023-24 in the House. After the presentation of the budget in the Lok Sabha, the Finance Bill 2023 was also introduced. Later, the Union Budget was tabled in the Rajya Sabha.

The budget session will be held in two sessions
The first part of the budget session of Parliament began on January 31 and will continue till February 14. After this, there will be a holiday till March 12. The second part of the budget session will run from March 13 to April 6. In the second phase, the Finance Bill will be discussed in both the Houses of the Parliament, after which the Bill will be passed by both the Houses. There will be a total of 27 sittings in a total of 66 days (including holidays) from January 31 to April 6.

35 bills pending in parliament
According to the bulletin received from Lok Sabha-Rajya Sabha, there are a total of 35 bills pending in the Parliament. Of these, 9 bills are to be introduced in the Lok Sabha and 26 in the Rajya Sabha. Bills are less likely to be discussed and passed in the first phase of the session. However, several important bills can be introduced in the second phase of the session. Of the 26 bills pending in the Rajya Sabha, three have already been passed by the Lok Sabha. These include the Inter-State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill 2019, the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Third Amendment) Bill 2022 and the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Fifth Amendment) Bill 2022.
