Parkash Singh Badal started his political innings in 1947. He first became the youngest sarpanch of his village. After this he was elected the chairman of the block committee Lambi. After becoming the block committee president, Parkash Singh Badal did not look back in his political journey. Parkash Singh Badal was first elected to the Punjab State Legislative Assembly in 1957.

Parkash Singh Dhillon (Badal), who did his graduation from Forman Christian College, Lahore (Pakistan), reached the Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1957 as a member of the Indian National Congress. This was his first term in the Punjab Legislative Assembly. But due to differences in the party, he left the Congress and joined the Shiromani Akali Dal.

Became the Chief Minister of Punjab for the first time in 1969

Prakash Singh Badal continued to become MLA. In 1969-70 he was elected as the Chief Minister of Punjab for the first time. After this he became the Chief Minister of Punjab in 1977, 1997, 2002, 2007 and again in 2012 for the last time. Parkash Singh Badal was the Chief Minister not only in Punjab but for the longest period of time in the whole of India for 5 times.

Received Panth Ratna Award from Shri Akal Takht Sahib

Parkash Singh Badal, who had the longest innings as Chief Minister, was the youngest Chief Minister in Punjab when he became the Chief Minister for the first time. Shri Akal Takht Sahib had awarded the Panth Ratna Fakhr-e-Qaum award to the former Chief Minister for his work done for the Sikhs and the Sikh Panth.
