The era has passed. When Goswami Tulsidas composed Ramcharit Manas, without knowing what was the condition of the society, what is the meaning of raising controversy on his cattle today? Actually, this is the politics of votes. This dispute can be considered as a well-thought-out initiative to divide the organized society into caste-based parts.

Everyone knows that the British did the same thing to divide the people. The society was divided into pieces by targeting religious texts, just like the Samajwadi Party is bent on doing today. Let’s see on which issues there is a dispute. First – Dhol, Gavar, Sudra, animal, woman, all these deserve to be punished. Meaning-Dhol, Gavar, vanchit, animal and woman, it is necessary to get information about these five. Tadan means to find out about someone, to find out the truth. Somewhere in this chapai, instead of Tadan, the word Tadna has been written. To chastise also means to see, find out or get information. Some people are also taking the meaning of the word chastisement as torture. It may be so, but today the circumstances are different. That’s why today it is not at all right to create controversy by going into its discussion.

Some scholars say that the words Sudra and Nari are the result of modification. We can call it Kshepak – in the real cattle, Sudra, in place of animal, is angry animal and in place of woman is Rari. So according to these scholars, the real cattle became – Dhol, Gavar, angry animal, Rari, officer of gross chastisement. Here kshubd pashu means stray animal and rari means one who quarrels. Puri Chaupai means that it is necessary to get complete information about these four first.

The second stanza on which there is a dispute is – Pujahi Vipra Sakal Guna Heena, Pujahi Na Shudra Guna Gyan Praveena. Means, however ignorant a Vipra may be, he should be worshipped, while a Shudra may be respectable, but may not be worshipable, however knowledgeable and proficient he may be. Now to understand the meaning of this chaupai, first it has to be understood that who is Vipra? Who is Shudra? Goswami has used the word Vipra, not the word Brahmin. There is a verse of Manu Smriti – जन्मना जायते शुद्रः संस्करात भावेत द्विजः। Ved Pathat Bhavet Vipra: Brahma Janatiti Brahmin: That means a person is a Shudra by birth. He can become Dwij by culture. Recitation of Vedas can lead to Vipra. But the one who knows Brahma, only he can be a true right to be called Brahmin.

Where is caste in all this? Everything is based on merit and religion. Then why are the leaders of the Samajwadi Party misinterpreting it? At least the holy scriptures or the texts in which people have faith, need to be kept away from vote politics. There should be a code of conduct for political parties to this effect.
