The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for rain in Punjab today. There are chances of rain in 15 districts today. These include Sangrur, Patiala, SAS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, SBS Nagar, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot. Rain will be normal here.
On the other hand, after the cracks in Ghaggar in the past, the situation has become tense. The first breach was near Chandpura dam in Budhlada, while the second occurred near Roorkee village in Sardulgarh area. Flood water has started receding in other districts. Though efforts are on to fill both the cracks, repeated attempts have failed due to the rapid flow. Today more than 20 nearby villages will be in its grip.

14 districts of Punjab have been affected by the recent rains. In the state, 29 people have died due to flood water or rain. The flood has affected 25 thousand people.

Flood water is still there in about 20 villages in Sangrur’s Moonak, but it is now receding. Today the level will go down further. Different teams have been formed here for the health of the people. A team of veterinary doctors is also ready to take care of the animals.
Similarly, flood water has started receding in Patiala as well. Though Ghaggar is still running above the danger mark, the situation is under control. At the same time, in Jalandhar also, a 350 feet wide breach has been filled in ‘Dhusi Dam’ on the banks of Satluj river in Mandla Chhanna area of Lohian block.

10 crore for clean water to flood affected areas
Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Brahm Shankar Zimpa has released Rs 10 crore for repair of drinking water supply in flood affected areas. The state government is already ensuring supply of clean water to flood victims through alternative arrangements, but repair of pipes, motors or tubewells damaged by floods will be done with this amount.

Some roads, including National Highway 71 near Khanauri, were closed for traffic due to damage caused by floodwaters. Shutrana, Samana and Sanour are the most affected areas in Punjab’s Patiala district.
25,160 flood-affected people have been shifted to safer places. A total of 164 relief camps are running in the state, in which 3,331 people are living. More than 1.60 lakh hectares of agricultural land has been affected by the flood.
