Based on the findings of the Enforcement Directorate during its probe into the school jobs for the West Bengal teacher recruitment bribery scam, the High Court had ordered a CBI inquiry into the matter.
CBI investigation has started on the orders of the High Court for recruitment in the municipality.
After the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI probe, the CBI had registered an FIR against arrested Trinamool Congress leader Ayan Sheel and his company, including others, in the municipal recruitment scam, and the CBI started investigating the matter.
Hearing the matter on Friday, the Chief Justice asked the CBI why notice was not served to the state of West Bengal, in a petition by the West Bengal government challenging the Calcutta High Court order to probe the municipal recruitment scam by a central agency.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal says that the impugned order says that simply because the teachers recruitment scamsters were common agents in this scam. No notice has been given to the West Bengal government in this regard. The CBI argues that West Bengal was actually present during the proceedings.
Supreme Court bans CBI probe into municipal recruitment
The Supreme Court, on the orders of the Calcutta High Court, directed the CBI to stay for a week its probe into an alleged scam in municipal recruitments in West Bengal. Along with this, the investigation of ED has been banned.
Let us inform that ED had obtained many papers and documents during the search of the house of TMC leader Aayan Sheel during the teacher recruitment scam. On the basis of those documents, the ED had claimed that there was a big scam in the recruitment in the municipalities. After that the ED had asked for a CBI inquiry into the matter. The High Court had ordered a CBI inquiry while accepting the ED’s appeal.
