Duka, the trusted dog of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, is about to retire. In such a situation, the sniffer dog who does Reiki before the Dalai Lama’s programs to be held at any place in Himachal will no longer be seen.
The sniffer Labrador dog named Duka, deployed in the security of the Dalai Lama, is retiring after 12 years of services. Duka, known for his tremendous ability to smell, specializes in tracing explosives.
The Dalai Lama’s venue was considered safe only after Duka’s Reiki.
Warning of explosives is a great feature
The police department will auction it on February 7 near Shiv Mandir in Mcleodganj police line. DSP Nitin Chauhan, posted in the security of Dalai Lama, told that the biggest feature of Duka is to warn the police about explosives. He used to do recce at the venue before the Dalai Lama’s programs.

Usually, the price of a Labrador dog ranges from 10 to 25 thousand, but sniffers like Duca are considered more valuable due to their training. The average lifespan of a Labrador retriever is 15 years, but after 12 they are mostly out of shape. 95 percent of Labrador dogs are of a calm nature.
