BJP again got majority in Tripura and Nagaland. The BJP alliance got 37 seats in Nagaland and 33 seats in Tripura. In Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s party NPP has won 26 seats, four short of a majority. Congress has won 5 seats and BJP 2 seats. The BJP has extended support to the National People’s Party (NPP) to form the government here.

After the election results, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an address at the BJP headquarters. He said- We are seeing the North-East moving on a new direction. It is not only a symbol of ending the distance of the hearts, but also a new thinking. Now the North-East is neither far from Delhi nor far from the heart.

On the other hand, the Supreme Court gave its verdict regarding the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners. The court ordered that a panel of the PM, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the CJI would appoint them. A bench headed by Justice KM Joseph said it was necessary to do so to maintain fairness in the election process. Earlier, the commissioners were appointed only by the government.

2. Supreme Court formed expert committee in Adani case, 6 members including Nandan Nilekani will investigate

The Supreme Court has formed an expert committee to investigate the Adani-Hindenburg case. Retired judge AM Sapre will be the head of the 6-member committee. The committee also includes Justices JP Deodhar, OP Bhat, MV Kamath, Nandan Nilekani and Somashekar Sundaresan. Nandan Nilekani is the co-founder of Infosys.

The committee will investigate the controversies related to the sharp fall in the shares of Adani Group. The court has also asked the Security Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to investigate the manipulation of stock prices. 3. Panel for appointment of Election Commissioner, SC said – these appointments should be like CBI director

A bench headed by Justice KM Joseph ordered that a panel comprising the PM, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the CJI would recommend the appointment of election commissioners. This process will remain in force until the Parliament enacts a law regarding the appointment of Election Commissioners.

Justice KM Joseph said, ‘The power of vote is supreme, it can make even the strongest parties lose power. That’s why it is necessary for the Election Commission to be independent. This selection process should be on the lines of CBI director. Earlier, the entire process of appointment was in the hands of the central government.

4. All four accused in Hathras incident acquitted in rape case, court held one guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder
After two and a half years, the court gave its verdict in the gang rape case with a Dalit girl in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. The court acquitted 3 out of 4 accused. At the same time, an accused has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The charge of gangrape on none of the four was proved.

However, in the statement given during the treatment, the victim had accused four youths of gangrape. Based on the statement of the girl, all the four accused were arrested and sent to jail. During treatment on 29 September 2020, the girl died at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

Alleged affair with sister-in-law, Panchs took fire test, if failed, fined Rs 11 lakh
