In Karnataka, the Lokayukta on Thursday arrested Prashant Kumar, son of BJP MLA Madal Veerupakshappa, for accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh. Prashant was arrested from his father’s office at Karnataka Soap and Detergent Limited (KSDL) in Bengaluru.
When Lokayukta raided KSDL office and Prashant’s house, 8 crore cash was recovered. After counting, the officers put the bundles of notes on the bed.
BJP MLA Madal Veerupakshappa has resigned from the post of KSDL chairman. He said that I am not involved in the tender in which the son took bribe. Prior to Virupakshappa’s resignation, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had said that the purpose of reintroducing the Lokayukta was to end corruption in the state.

The officers also raided Prashant’s house. Here bundles of notes were counted. The search is still on.
Prashant Kumar is the Chief Accounts Officer at the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
Prashant had asked for 80 lakh bribe, Lokayukta said – son and father, both guilty
According to Lokayukta officials, Prashant is a 2008 batch officer of the Karnataka Administrative Service. He had demanded Rs 80 lakh from a contractor for a deal to buy raw material for making soap and other detergents. After which the contractor had complained about it to the Lokayukta.
On the complaint, the Lokayukta hatches a plan to catch Prashant red-handed. The official said that the amount was taken from KSDL chairman and BJP MLA Madal Veerupakshappa. In such a situation, both father and son are accused in this case of taking bribe.
Prashant’s father said – I am not involved in any tender
Prashanth’s father Madal Virupakshappa is an MLA from Channagiri in Davangere district of Karnataka. He said- I have no information about this. I came to know about this through the media. I have not spoken to my son about this as he is now in the custody of the Lokayukta. I am not involved in any tender.
