A proverb from an IPL commentator while describing Royal Challengers Bengaluru fast bowler Yash Dayal hasn’t gone down well with the fans.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Yash Dayal became the talk of social media minutes after the start of the team’s IPL 2024 contest with Punjab Kings on Monday night. And not just because of his economical spell inside the Powerplay that saw him allowing just 10 runs in three overs during that phase.

With Dayal midway through the fifth over of PBKS innings, a controversial usage of a proverb by former India cricketer Murali Kartik who was on air to describe the left-arm pacer’s move from Gujrat Titans to RCB resulted in an uproar on social media.

Kartik was praising Dayal for his spell when he commented on GT releasing him ahead of the IPL 2024 players’ auction last year.

“It has been a good spell so far (from Dayal). Released by the Gujarat Titans, picked up RCB. As they say, someone’s trash is someone else’s treasure,” said Kartik.

After the furor on social media, RCB also responded to the remark with a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Dayal finished with bowling figures of 1/23 from his four overs.
